Abstract
Currently, a highly controversial topic remains the role, for a primary total hip arthroplasty to accompany an open reduction and internal fixation of selective acute displaced acetabular fractures, and especially in elderly and typically osteopenic individuals. A central theme of the controversy focuses on the realistic reconstruction of a displaced and comminuted fracture involving osteopenic bone and the likelihood to achieve a prolonged and favorable long-term clinical outcome for the arthroplasty.
