Abstract

Low back pain is a common affliction with significant associated costs to the healthcare delivery system. The importance of back pain from a societal view is underscored by the number of individuals affected and the potential economic consequences for patients and employers alike. Myriad treatments for low back pain have been reported. The purpose of this paper is to review appropriate clinical management and nonoperative treatment of low back pain, consider traditional and non-traditional treatments about which patients may inquire, and emphasize evidence-based recommendations.
