Abstract
ObjectiveTranssphenoidal approach through the microscopic and endoscopic technique to drain a petrous apex cholesterol granuloma.MethodA 52-year-old woman presented with cholesterol granuloma of the right petrous apex complaining of progressive hearing loss and fullness sensation. The lesion was treated via transsphenoidal approach to establish a drainage pathway into the nasopharynx.ResultThe postoperative course of the patient showed improvement of the hearing threshold and disappearance of the drowsiness and aural fullness.ConclusionThis procedure for the drainage of petrous apex cholesterol granuloma showed to be effective, safe and a minimally invasive method of treatment without postoperative complications.
