Abstract

The features of the aging neck combine accumulated submental fat, platysmal banding, and redundant skin in varying degrees. When these anatomic changes associated with aging are astutely appreciated by the surgeon and patient, safe and effective esthetic neck contouring surgery can be undertaken. The surgical armamentarium for neck contouring entails submental liposuction, platysmal plication, neck lift, and permutations thereof to achieve rejuvenation of the neck. Using adjuvant techniques in concert with accurate clinical diagnosis, careful patient selection, and skillful execution of surgical technique can effectively restore the appearance of the jaw line, cervicomental angle, and neck.
