Abstract
Medical management is considered to be anything that is nonsurgical. Medical treatments include self-help approaches (weight loss, sleep positioning maneuvers, avoidance of alcohol, sedative hypnotics and other sedating medication, and improving sleep hygiene), medications, oral appliance therapy, and positive airway pressure. If a particular medical treatment is applicable to a patient, this treatment should be considered before consideration of surgery. In general, medical therapies serve to augment our treatment and rarely cure the problem.
