Abstract
An essential contribution pathologists make in the care of cutaneous melanoma patients is to document and report important histologic features that are used in cancer staging and treatment and follow-up planning. This article will review the major prognostic parameters that the practicing pathologist is expected to evaluate in the routine workup of primary cutaneous melanomas. Emphasis is placed on practical aspects and histologic criteria.
