Abstract
Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) is characterized by placentomegaly, vascular alterations and oedematous villi and is often confused with hydatidiform mole; however, unlike the latter, it has no malignant potential and normal gestation is possible although complications may occur. We report a case of PMD, diagnosed after delivery, which was associated with intrauterine growth restriction. The pathophysiology, usefulness of p57 and differential diagnosis of PMD is discussed.
