Anatomía patológica de los tumores del estroma gastrointestinal primarios no metastásicos en España. Resultados del estudio GRISK

Pathologists follow closely the guidelines set out in the GEIS (Spanish sarcoma research group) for GIST. The pathologist's report should include not only size, number of mitoses/50hmf and the localization, but also a description of the borders, cellular types and presence or not of necrosis. Immunohistochemistry with CD117, CD34, actin, desmin, S100 protein and Ki-67 should be carried out. The risk of tumoural progression differs between the different classifications, which will be proven by follow-up.
