Abstract
The prevention of atherosclerosis in children involves the adoption of eating behaviours and healthy lifestyles and monitoring, from early childhood, body weight, lipide profile and blood pressure. In this article we describe the current recommendations regarding preventive strategies for the pediatric community and children at increased risk for atherosclerosis, evaluating the possibility of prescribing statins. The use of these drugs is still a debating subject despite the recent recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
