Abstract
Ingestion of foreign body is rare in the neonatal period, while it remains common in other pediatric age groups. Our goal is to highlight the existence of foreign body ingestion in the newborn and the interest of monitoring every newborn to prevent the production of such an incident. We report the case of a female newborn of 20 days, admitted to the service in an array of respiratory difficulties, drooling and a clear rejection of titties. Physical examination at admission, the newborn was eutrophic, stable hemodynamically. The pleuropulmonary auscultation was without anomaly. The gorge was clean without viewing foreign body with hypersalivation. The abdominal examination was unremarkable. The thoraco-abdominal radiograph showed no foreign body while the lateral view was objectified at the pre-lumbar region. The time monitoring stool helped find a small gold ring in these previously worn by the newborn in her finger. We emphasize prevention through education of parents who should be informed of the risk to this type of accident.
