Abstract
Several paediatric rheumatological diseases are associated with ophthalmologic pathology and this can be an important cause of morbidity. This review will concentrate upon the most well recognized association between Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and chronic uveitis. It is important not to overlook other diseases and we will discuss the eye diseases of acute uveitis and scleritis as well as the systemic diseases of sarcoidosis, Blau syndrome and vasculitis. We will also focus on the clinical assessment of a child presenting with an ophthalmic condition including the signs to look out for to determine the presence of an underlying causative systemic disease.
