Abstract
Seizures in the neonate are frequent and often the only sign of neurological dysfunction. They can be caused by a variety of conditions ranging from the benign and self-limiting to life threatening disorders. Several unresolved issues remain concerning when to initiate treatment, duration of therapy and what anticonvulsant medications should be used. Recent insights into the pathophysiology may provide the foundation for better treatment.
