Abstract
Despite changes in postgraduate medical education in the UK, the step up in responsibility associated with becoming a middle grade doctor remains a significant source of anxiety for many paediatricians in training. This brief review represents a personal reflection on the challenges faced by new paediatric middle grades and aims to provide some practical advice on how to make the most of the opportunities encountered.
