Abstract
Psychiatric disorders are the leading cause of maternal morbidity, and suicide is a leading cause of maternal death in the UK, and probably throughout the developed world. These disorders are very common both in pregnancy and following delivery. This article covers the aetiology and management of puerperal psychosis, postnatal depressive illness, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
