Abstract
Mental health practitioners have, potentially, much to offer the family justice system in its deliberations on the care of vulnerable children, especially where adult carers suffer mental health problems. This paper describes what comprises parenting, sets out principles, and describes a framework for carrying out assessments that are based on best available evidence and which may be submitted to the family justice courts.
