Abstract
Alcohol and drugs of abuse are implicated in a considerable amount of physical mortality and morbidity. It is estimated that up to 30,000 individuals die of alcohol-related illness each year in the UK. Fatal opioid overdose is one of the commonest causes of death in young men. This contribution examines some of the physical consequences of alcohol and drug use, misuse and dependence.
