Abstract
Self-harm is a major public health problem and makes up a large proportion of the workload of many departments of consultation-liaison psychiatry. This paper focuses on self-harm from a general hospital perspective. It discusses the epidemiology of self-harm, hospital services, recent guidance, assessment, management and prevention.
