Abstract
Lung cancer is the first cause of cancer death in western countries because its often common presentation delays the diagnosis. If 25% of patients are asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, the majority of patients present with general, thoracic or extra-thoracic symptoms which should capture attention, especially in smokers or former smokers. The radiological presentation is often classical and should lead to endoscopic, radiological or surgical examinations, in order to get a histological or cytological proof of diagnosis. The work-up in order to assess the TNM stage should be done as quickly as possible to avoid delay in starting treatment(s). The diagnosis and the plan of care will be released to the patient with caution and personalized support.
