Abstract
The role of surgery is increasingly debated in the care of patients and only debulking surgery (cytoreduction) is still currently evaluated within multimodal therapies. Chemotherapy is the only treatment for mesothelioma that has proven its effectiveness on survival in randomized controlled trials and a doublet associating pemetrexed and a platinum salt remains the standard treatment. Progress in terms of carcinogenesis understanding and molecular biology will certainly help to develop new tools and therapeutic strategies such as targeted therapies, gene or cell therapies.
