Abstract
Idiopathic pulmonary fi brosis is the most common interstitial lung disease and its pathophysiology remains an enigma at the moment. Recent studies have shown the involvement of the mesothelial cell in the pathophysiology with epithelial-mesenchymal transition of the precursor cells of myofi broblasts. The same team has promising avenues of research via HSP27 (Heat Shock Protein 27), to block the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and thus prevent the onset of fibrosis.
