Abstract
The 2012 congress of the European Respiratory Society has revisited several aspects of venous thrombo-embolism includng the use of thrombolytic therapy in the management of sub-massive pulmonary embolism, and the complications of venous thrombo-embolism and their consequences (post-embolic pulmonary hypertension and venous thromboembolic recurrence). The optimal strategy for oral anticoagulation therapy requires the knowledge of the risk of recurrent thrombo-embolism and that of anticoagulant-related bleeding.
