Abstract
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in France. 39 500 new cases of lung cancer were expected in 2011, 27 500 males and 12 000 among women, representing 11% of all new cancer cases ; 29 100 deaths were expected, including 21000 in men and 8100 in women, representing 20% of all cancer deaths. Its presentation (age, sex, histological type) was recently amended, mainly due to changes in smoking practices. Exposure to carcinogens in the workplace are also more widely considered. Despite the introduction of new drugs and new therapeutic strategies, overall survival of patients was relatively poorly improved in recent years.
