Abstract
The study resulted in changes to the descriptors T: the size of the tumors with threshold 2, 3, 5 and 7Â cm, to emphasize the importance of satellite nodules and malignant pleural effusions. Malignant effusions are now included in the M1a stage. The invasion of the visceral pleura has been defined and has established a classification of pleural invasion. The new classification is also applicable for small cell lung cancers and carcinoid tumours. A new nodal map is proposed, delineating more precisely the limits of each station.
