Abstract
Lung cancer diagnosis is based on the histological analysis of several types of tissue specimens which may come from bronchoscopy, needle biopsy, video-assisted thoracoscopic biopsy or surgical resection. The WHO 2004 classification, based on morphology has to be used for this diagnosis. Ninety per cent of lung cancers are carcinomas, non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounting for approximately 80% of these cases. Immunohistochemistry is only necessary in some situations.
