Abstract
Pleural effusion seriously alters the quality of life of patients whose performance status and life expectancy are already compromised. Video-assisted talc pleuradesis is the preferred strategy for the management of pleural effusion but the rate of complications and failure of this procedure are not negligible. This option should be considered early and it is important to discuss alternative strategies, especially in frail patients, in order to optimize their quality of life as far as possible.
