Abstract
Lymph node dissection is a crucial component of radical surgery for lung cancer. Clinical practice is extremely variable among centers, throughout the world, because the therapeutic role of lymphadenectomy remains controversial, despite the prognostic value has been demonstrated. Recently an international nodal map was proposed in order to harmonize the definition of the nodal groups within the thoracic cavity. The landmarks between the different nodal zones has been clarified by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer Staging Project, who proposed, in particular as a major change, to move the frontier between right and left sides of the anterior mediastinum.
