Abstract
BackgroundAssessment of amniotic fluid volume (AFV) is important for determining fetal well-being in the uterus. This assessment can be made subjectively or objectively by measuring the amniotic fluid pockets.MethodsSingle deepest pocket (SDP) measurement was the first method for objectively determining AFV in a noninvasive manner. This is a faster technique compared with the Amniotic Fluid Index method and is the only easy objective way in case of multiple pregnancies, especially in dizygotic gestation.ResultsIn this study, SDP was found to range between 1.7 and 7.6 cm from 14 to 41 weeks of gestational age.ConclusionTherefore, SDP >7.6 cm can be considered as polyhydramnios and SDP <1.7 cm as oligohydramnios.
