Abstract
Considering the high risk of infectious complications, there is no discussion anymore about the need of antibiotic prophylaxis in transrectal ultrasound guided biopsy of the prostate today. However, the variety of practices existing justifies that we remind the principles of its prescription. It is thus recommanded to give a unique dose of fluoroquinolone one or two hours before the operation. The prevention of endocarditis requires a specific antibiotic prophylaxis for the patient concerned. Searching for risk factors of resistance to quinolones would allow to identify situations possibly leading to failure, and to adapt the prescriptions in consequence.
