Abstract
Intermittent self-catheterization is the reference method to empty the bladder in the case of urinary retention without urological obstruction, as it ensures continence and protects the kidneys from complications. The efficacy of this method depends on an average frequency of 5 to 6 times a day, using a clean non-sterile technique. Self-catheterization is easy to learn and the advantages/disadvantages balance is largely in favour of the use of this technique.
