Abstract
⺠Tinnitus is exacerbated by stress and involves cochlear NMDA receptors. ⺠Dynorphins and salicylates potentiate glutamate effects at cochlear NMDA receptors. ⺠Salicylate produces tinnitus; dynorphins exist in the cochlea. ⺠Dynorphins released during periods of stress could exacerbate tinnitus. ⺠Opioid antagonism may alleviate a stress induced exacerbation of tinnitus.
