Abstract
⺠This work shows mechanism of Mg2+ block of purinergic stimulated Ca2+ responses in THP-1 cells. ⺠The P2X7R agonist BzATP activates metabotropic P2YR and ionotropic P2X7R. ⺠Elevated Mg2+ blocks Ca2+ influx through P2X7R and store operated channels (SOC). ⺠A model is proposed linking Mg2+ modulation of Ca2+ entry with neuroprotection.
