Abstract
► Nicotine acts both in the brain and periphery to induce its behavioral and physiological effects. ► We examined the effects of nicotine on locomotion and temperatures in the brain, muscle and skin. ► We compared changes induced by nicotine and its peripherally acting methiodide analog. ► Activating effects of nicotine critically depend upon its action on central nicotinic receptors.
