Abstract
⺠There are multiple routes by which the hippocampus can modulate fear and anxiety. ⺠The hippocampus exerts inhibitory control over stress hormone secretion. ⺠Contextual control of aversive memories is mediated by the hippocampus. ⺠The unexpected occurrence or absence of aversive stimuli engages the hippocampus.
