Abstract
⺠Descending controls differ in the modulation of peripheral nociceptive afferents. ⺠Thalamic MD and VM nuclei discriminate mechanically and heat mediated nociception. ⺠Thalamic MD nucleus facilitates mechanically evoked nociception. ⺠Heat-evoked nociception is inhibited by thalamic VM nucleus.
