► Major changes in presynaptic GABAB receptors occur during vestibular compensation. ► GABAB decreases GABA release in vestibular nuclei neurons after lesions. ► GABAB decreases GABA activity on the intact side of compensating chickens. ► Postsynaptic GABAB receptors are not involved in vestibular compensation.
