Abstract
▶In neurons of the visual cortex the original optimal spatial frequency changes after adaptation. ▶A new preferred spatial frequency is acquired because the peak of the tuning curve shifts toward the adaptor. ▶After recovery, repeating adaptation further augments shifts and neuronal responses. ▶Thus, cortical neurons are able to remember previously applied adapting stimuli.
