Abstract
â¶Carotid chemoreceptors mediate hypothermia elicited by acute hypoxia. â¶Hypoxia activates noradrenergic afferents in the rostromedial preoptic area (POA). â¶Activation of α1-adrenoceptors induces nitric oxide synthase in the rostromedial POA. â¶Preoptic nitric oxide activates efferent mechanisms for heat-loss responses.
