Synaptic changes underlying the strengthening of GABA/glycinergic connections in the developing lateral superior olive

▶Inhibitory connections in the auditory brainstem of mice are strengthened before hearing onset. ▶Strengthening of single-fiber connections is involves a 2-fold increase in quantal amplitude and an approximately 8-fold increase in quantal content. ▶Changes in probability of neurotransmitter release or changes in soma-dendritic location of synapses do not significantly contribute to synaptic strengthening.
