Abstract
⺠We explored the functional nature of infant neural mismatch responses (MMRs) to an English vowel change. ⺠We compared MMRs in the internal versus final positions of a stimulus sequence. ⺠Increased negativity of the MMR was found in the final position. ⺠We hypothesized that infants paid more attention to the vowels in the final position.
