Abstract
⺠Taste buds have been detected in the tongue of the holocephalan Chimaera monstrosa. ⺠The G-protein-α-inhibitory subfamily seems conserved from mammals to holocephalan. ⺠Commercial antibodies to G-α-i are likely to work also in holocephalans. ⺠Taste buds of C. monstrosa are Gα-i-like immunoreactive. ⺠This is the very first detection of taste structure in the holocephalan subclass.
