Abstract
⺠Georg von Békésy studied auditory mechanics in a wide range of animals and in humans. ⺠Békésy's crucial discovery was the traveling wave on the basilar membrane. ⺠New experiments under his work conditions would give similar results. ⺠New work on mammals and non-mammals shows important similarities and differences.
