Abstract
⺠We investigated extracts of wounded wood in beech and their fungicidal effect. ⺠Higher amounts of phenolic compounds were found in reaction zones and wound-wood. ⺠Extracts of wound-wood and sapwood showed inhibitory effect on wood decaying fungi. ⺠Extracts of reaction zones did not exhibit fungicidal effect. ⺠This indicates defensive and protective role of studied tissues in living trees.
