Abstract
► We investigated extracts of wounded wood in beech and their fungicidal effect. ► Higher amounts of phenolic compounds were found in reaction zones and wound-wood. ► Extracts of wound-wood and sapwood showed inhibitory effect on wood decaying fungi. ► Extracts of reaction zones did not exhibit fungicidal effect. ► This indicates defensive and protective role of studied tissues in living trees.
