Vulnerability to coastal flooding and response strategies: The case of settlements in Cameroon mangrove forests

► We assessed how Cameroon mangrove forests communities are affected by coastal flooding and react. ► Major impacts of flooding were settlement submergence; house damage; loss of water quality, etc. ► Adaption strategies include retreat or abandonment of settlement, house reinforcement, etc. ► Most ongoing adaptation strategies are reactive and individual. ► External support to improve adaptive capacity in mangrove settlements is recommended.
