Abstract
► Woodrat herbivory permanently removed photosynthetic tissue on >40% of saguaros. ► Herbivory was associated with fewer adjacent succulents, including Opuntia cacti. ► Saguaros with high (vs. zero) herbivory exhibited reduced reproductive output. ► Heavily-grazed plants produced 31% fewer flowers and 42% fewer fruits. ► Woodrat herbivory can dampen saguaro reproduction and recruitment pulses.
