Effects of seasonal heat on the activity rhythm, habitat use, and space use of the beira antelope in southern Djibouti

► We studied the type of shade (trees, rocks, hillsides) used at different seasons. ► In the cool season, beira alternated between short phases of activity and rest. ► In the hot season, they rested in the shade during several consecutive hours. ► Because of reduced diurnal movements, home ranges were smaller in the hot season. ► Human-induced decrease of tree cover constitutes a threat for the species survival.
