Abstract
The aim of the present work is to examine the recent Holocene history of Libyan mammals by integrating data from archaeoozology, prehistoric iconography, historical and recent observations, in order to offer a starting point for future studies. The available data document the past diffusion of species - belonging to both Palaearctic and Afrotropical biogeography - some of which may still survive in some of the more remote desert reaches of this North African state. An additional aim is to compile a bibliographic corpus on Libyan mammals, with particular reference to Italian literature.
