Abstract
⺠U.S. and Canadian monitoring results show long term Great Lakes major ion changes. ⺠The upper Great Lakes have shown persistent increases in most ions. ⺠The lower lakes have shown a pattern of increase, decline and rebound for some ions. ⺠The results show that very long times may be required to alter water quality trends. ⺠The importance of long-term systematic water quality monitoring is underscored.
