Abstract
⺠Elevated Diporeia densities occur at sites with depths of 30-125 m in Lake Superior ⺠This habitat, termed the Ring of Fire, occurs as a band around the lake ⺠The Ring of Fire, covering only 1/4 of the bottom area, hosts 2/3 of the Diporeia ⺠The Ring of Fire, covering only 1/4 of the bottom area, hosts 2/3 of the Diporeia ⺠Forms in depositional environments proximate to a source of primary production ⺠Significant habitat overlap with the upper food web occurs in the Ring of Fire
