Abstract
Dimensionless Peclet number is applied to describe the flow behavior in a specially designed wastewater reactor with compound flow pattern of plug-flow, baffled-flow and mixed-flow. A set of Peclet numbers is obtained for different fluid conditions by measuring the residence time distribution of a tracer in the reactor. Some experiments were made to examine the quantitative influence of on the removal efficiency of COD, NH4+-N and TP, and the results shown that there is an optimum number representing a certain flow pattern at which best removal rates of COD, NH4+-N and TP are obtained.
