Abstract

The effect of velocity and outlet angle of the thermal discharge on its diffusion law with basic flow in power plant is investigated and the related velocity fields and temperature distributions are both obtained by using of two-dimensional numerical tank and the k-ɛ turbulence model in this paper. The results show that on the backward position of outlet there may be a separation zone, which affected by the outlet angle and the velocity of the basic flow and the thermal discharge. Then, a reasonable selection of outlet angle and the velocity of the thermal discharge can reduce the impact of thermal drainage on the water intake of power plant.
